“Marger is at the forefront of a new wave of young MCs bringing back the authentic underground sound of grime.” – Logan Sama (Kiss FM)
Marger, born Daniel Thomas, originated from the streets of east London with aspirations to be an artist from the tender age of 17. He Joined the crew Alien Muzik (a movement of different genres of sound) alongside super producer Rude Kid. Marger’s first release “Not Again” instantly put him in the spotlight around the same time as many other prominent MC’s were emerging onto the scene. Realising he’d have to up the levels Marger took a two year break, in which time he continued to write lyrics and work on his distinctive flow coming back in 2008 to grow his fan base and release the free mixtape ‘Scumbags’ which without much promotion still sold over (1200) units.
Noticed by popular DJ’s Logan Sama and Tim Westwood and emceeing on Rinse FM allowed Marger to show his fans what he was lyrically capable of, following that he upped his work rate and started working on his digital release “Flow Food”, which he released in 2009, gaining a whooping 4000 downloads and spins on admired radio stations Kiss 100, 1xtra and Rinse FM in 2010.
With no time to sit back and congratulate himself Marger began working on the amusingly named EP “Kushwave” with his popular signature lyric “Itz… Mar-gerrrr”, circulating around the grime scene. The Kushwave EP went on to do outstandingly well, with track “My Thing” being playlisted on popular music channel Flava. The “My Thing Remix” was also featured on the Ministry Of Sound Dubstep compilation CD whilst MTV reviewed the EP and gave it a 4/5 rating.
Still riding high on the success of The Kushwave EP, Marger’s talents were noticed by 1xtra DJ’s Mistajamand DJ Cameo who regularly began spinning his tunes. DJCameo went on to have Marger feature on his track “Who’s Dat” alongside the likes of Mz Bratt. The Sun newspaper even recognized Margers talents and asked him to feature on Grime special alongside the likes of Skepta and P Money, fans were asked to vote for their favourites and Marger came an impressive 2nd.
With his face now all over the music channels, RWD magazine deeming him “one to watch’ and featuring on songs that were making the BBC 1xtra playlist, Marger has since been performing all over the UK, went on tour with Wiley and headlined a sold out show in the Czech republic. As a thank you for all the support Marger released a free download entitled “Sneaky Ep” which in just over a month has notched up an impressive 10,000 downloads!
Marger has recently collaborated with Foreign Beggers for their next release and is now working on the highly anticipated “Cheeky EP” scheduled for release later in the year. Shadows is the first single and has already been “Tipped for the Top” by MTV.
The new music he’s about to release is set to shock fans of his previously abrasive lyrics and move him out of the “grime emcee” category, zooming head first into the ‘artist” category. It’s definitely a case of expect the unexpected!
